National Tournament Scholarships

History

The boys and girls who bowl the highest three-game sets (scratch and handicap) during the National Duckpin Youth Championships win $500 scholarships.

Established in 2019 along with the National Open Tournament, these four scholarships are awarded to the bowler in each NDYA age division that rolls the most pins over their average for any three-game set throughout the open tournament.

NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS

National Duckpin Bowling Congress - The NDBC sponsors this scholarship in memory of Bob Louk - an avid duckpinner and long-time NDBC/NDYA Board Member from Virginia - who sadly passed away in February 2025.  Bob dedicated much of his adult life to ensuring the success of the NDBC and the NDYA.

Mrs. Dolly Daniels - A scholarship was established to honor Dolly for her dedication and commitment to youth duckpin bowling.  Dolly served as a Coach at Glen Burnie Bowl, the Youth Director at AMF Southwest, and a National Intructor before retiring in 2016.  Sadly, Dolly passed away in 2022.

Mr. Normand Fleury - This scholarship,  funded through the generosity of the Rhode Island Duckpin Bowling Proprietors, honors past NDYA President who passed away in October 2001.

Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association - This scholarship is provided through the generosity of Mr. David Richardson (owner of Greenmount Bowl and President of the MD Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association).  This partnership began in 2015.

NATIONAL OPEN TOURNAMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

We sincerely thank the Duckpin Bowling Proprietors of America (DBPA) for so generously sponsoring all four of these scholarships in honor of our four past Program Directors:

1973 - 1981:  Ms. Evelyn Larochelle

1981 - 2011:  Ms. Carol Yingling

2011 - 2017:  Mr. Stacy Karten

2017 - 2020:  Mr. Frank Ferri, Jr.
