National Tournament Scholarships

History

The boys and girls who bowl the highest three-game sets (scratch and handicap) during the National Duckpin Youth Championships win $500 scholarships. In 2019, the four $500 scholarships were funded through generous contributions from the following:

National Duckpin Youth Association - This year, two of the scholarships were provided by the NDYA in honor of:

Mr. Stacy Karten - A scholarship to honor Stacy for his lifelong achievement and dedication to the fame of duckpin bowling. Stacy served in many capacities over the years; and although he officially retired as the NDYA Program Director in December 2017, he continues to work behind the scenes to ensure the success of the program.

Mrs. Dolly Daniels - A scholarship was established to honor Dolly for her dedication and commitment to youth duckpin bowling. Dolly served as a Coach at Glen Burnie Bowl, the Youth Director at AMF Southwest, and a National Intructor before retiring in 2016. She continues to serve as a Maryland State Director and can be counted upon to assist wherever needed.

Mr. Normand Fleury - This scholarship, funded through the generosity of the Rhode Island Duckpin Bowling Proprietors, honors past NDYA President who died in October 2001.

Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association - This scholarship is provided through the generosity of Mr. David Richardson (owner of Greenmount Bowl and President of the MD Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association). This partnership began in 2015.
